Can You See the Joy?

We need a joyful pause

There is joy in your life. There, the truth is out there now. Pause a moment and think about that. Do you believe it? Can you feel it? More importantly, can you see it? The sad truth today amid all the bad news so lovingly displayed by the mainstream media is that most people across the world fail to see this one simple truth. It seems as though the world has become so preoccupied by recent economic bad news that they have overlooked what they need most. Joy.

It doesn't have to be that way. You see each and every one of us is living a life a joy and if we only took a little while - a simple pause - to reflect on this our lives would improve greatly. No, I'm not some goodie-two-shoes with his head in the clouds. I live in the world just like everyone else with bills, and heartaches, yet I live a life of joy. The difference is that I took that pause and so can you.

Joy is everywhere

Our joys are everywhere from taking that first refreshing yawn after a good night's sleep to the comfort of crawling into our warm beds at twilight. Each night as we lay down to sleep, our lives have been filled with the joys God has given to us.

Think about this. What makes you happy? Did you do something worthwhile at work today? Did one of your children give you a great big hug? Did a passing stranger pause to talk to you or offer you a smile? Perhaps you were the one giving the smile. If so, have you stopped to think how that one innocent act may have made that person feel? Did you talk with your parents or spend time with a close friend?

Joy is ours to claim

How many times did you laugh today? Did a funny thought cross your mind and leave you with a silent smile that maybe made other people wonder what you were up to? Did you pet an animal? Kiss a lover? Did you tell someone you loved them today?

In a world where the media tries so desperately to dictate our negative emotions, nothing, not them, not the government, not society, not even the very people we associate with can ever truly stop the simple joys that are ours to claim.

What made you smile today?

The reason is that joy comes from within where God dwells. No I'm not spouting religion, just pointing out a simple and wonderful truth. Nothing can stop the joy...except for you.

So I encourage every one of you to take a well earned break. Turn off that television. Stop reading the news. Tune out those negative influences and take a moment to look inward.

Ask yourself a simple question. What made you smile today? Think on that and celebrate it. That, my friends, is true joy. It is yours to keep and make a part of you. All you have to do is pause and see the joy.
