Native American Elders
By: Dorothy K Daigle

Wisdom keepers

As our true wisdom keepers age and too soon ride the wind, we lose the opportunity to learn from them. We lose the opportunity to gain divinely inspired wisdom and understanding from our beloved Native American elders.

It was suggested that I write a book about all the things Cherokee elder and wisdom keeper, John Red Hat, was teaching me. I decided to do this. So I began writing down all the things I was learning from him, as well as incorporating those things I had learned from the great prophet, Elijah.

John Red Hat

One day I showed the book to John Red Hat when it was only about one-third done. He read it, then looked at me and said, "Do you think it might be possible for you to change the title of this book? I received from Spirit that, "Soon Red Hat will speak," and I feel so weak and ill, that maybe the way I will speak is through your book.

So I said sure, and I changed the title.

Red Hat departed from this Earth plane in 2003, but his spirit is still with me. Three days after he died, his presence returned to me. He was devastated apparently by what he had accomplished in life compared to what he had been given to do. He was a brilliant man.

Anyway, he revealed to me that he had gotten "permission" to continue working with me. I got the impression that he would earn something by working with me, with a physical presence in this world who was willing to do the tasks that he could no longer do.

He has been working with me in this way now for about six years and his spirit is still alive and well. However, we still have some Native American elders who are alive and can still function in this world.

If anyone has the opportunity to help our Native American elders teach us about spiritual truths of living, it would be wonderful if we could help them get their message out to the world. It so desperately needs help.

For more information about teachings of Cherokee Elder and Wisdom Keeper, John Red Hat Duke, read the books he inspired, Red Hat Speaks, and Red Hat's Wisdom, by Dorothy K. Daigle.

Dorothy was taught by John Red Hat Duke for over ten years in Keetoowah Cherokee spiritual ways, in Eastern philosophy, and in Judaism. She was raised Christian so she has a good working knowledge of Christianity. She now follows no religion, but strives to walk the Red Road spiritual path of unconditional love according to Jesus' teachings and the Torah.

Native American Indian History

  • American History - First Native Americans
The America that greeted the first Europeans was, thus, far from an empty wilderness. It is now thought that as many people lived in the Western Hemisphere as in Western Europe at that time -- about 40 million.

A partial list of well known places in the United States that were named after Native American words or names.

  • North American Native Indian
A little history about the North American Indian. It is believed that the first North American Indian came across a land bridge across the Bering Sound, from Siberia into Alaska.

  • Native American Wisdom
Perhaps our Native Brothers and Sisters know more than we have allowed them to share up to this point. Perhaps we should find a way to listen more closely to their wisdoms.

  • Native American Astrology
